Case Study-3: Rocket Nozzle
The aviation industry requires high-quality and durable parts, so implementing new manufacturing technologies, optimizing production processes, and improving efficiency are essential.
Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) offers promising production techniques for the aviation industry, and WAAM facilitates faster and cheaper part production compared to traditional processes. WAAM is particularly useful for aerospace applications since it provides a low BTF (buy-to-fly) ratio, superior mechanical properties, and large-scale part manufacturing.

This rocket nozzle is produced using a manufacturing setup involving a 6+2 axis robot and a positioner setup that move together in a synchronized motion. The robotic toolpath utilizes the revolved surface-slicing strategy. The part has a diameter of 250mm and a height of 400mm. The total weight of the printed object is 14 kg, and it takes approximately 11 hours to complete the printing process.
Advantages:
– The BTF ratio is 1.5
– Lead Time is reduced by 88%
– Production costs are reduced by 90%
